Henry of the Wood
"Say what you mean, mean what you say and do what you promise to do."
Age Thirty One Years old
Race Human
Occupation/Rank Outlaw/Vagabond/Woodsman
son of John and first wife Jane of Norwall. He has been gone for many years and no one in his family is aware of where he is. ((known as Henry Torryn))
Physical Description
The most remarkable thing about Henry is that he blends in so well. He wears common clothes with course fabrics, nuetral colors. He has a a dark green cloak which seperates him from his friends slightly. He has a worn pair of work boots. All of this combined creates the look of a common woodsman.
There is nothing at all common about the handsome man's face or body. His eyes are large, intense and gray with long lashes. His straight thick brows do not distract from his eyes actually seeming to accentuate the intensity of his gaze. He has high cheekbones, with a long, patrician nose. His lips are shapely but not large or puffy. He often has enough scruff that no one pays his lips much attention. He has a cleft in his chin and an almost perfectly oval face with a head of brown hair.
His hair is lighter in summer but it considered brown. A widow's peak also brings attention to the symmetry of his features. He is almost always scruffy faced as he hates to have a beard but does not have the time nor patience to shave every morning.
At about 6'0" even the man considers himself tall although not the tallest of men. He has an athletic build, broad shoulders and a slim waist. He is muscled from his time spent fighting and training over the many years and keeps his physique today because he continues to do a lot of physical activity and fighting.
He has several scars on his body, particularly on his arms and torso from fighting in the war.
Personality Attributes
He changed so much throughout his life that his personality now is much different than when he was a child. Now he feels an intense need to protect those weaker than himself including, the elderly, sick, children and women. As it should be, he respects and honors women as Chivalry demands of knights. He believes that all men were created equal by their maker and so all men should be treated the same. People should be given justice instead of tyranny by those in power.
Henry believes in truth but finds it lacking in almost all the people around the world. Most especially those in power who have secrets. Because of his intense hatred for those who have everything and do nothing with it, he steals from them. Watching the daily suffering of the poor and defenseless under the power of the corrupt has made him more bold.
This isn't to say Henry enjoys fighting. He spent many long hours of study as a child. In fact he is a deep thinker, he does not charge into situations without a plan of some kind. Or at the very least half a plan. He has a strong moral compass which he never veers from. One might say he is a bit too good but he doesn't always do what he does for the good of other people. He does what is best for him as well.
A vain man, he is proud of what he has done in his life, especially now. He is becoming a figure of legendary proportions to the people who live near the wood. He loves to feel loved by ordinary folk and finds himself needing to be the hero all the time. He cannot always fulfill the role he wishes.
Henry is nothing is not determined. He will go out of his way to achieve a goal. Failure is not an option...ever.
As far as relationships are concerned, Henry feels no woman should be bound to him in the life he leads now. He is constantly on the move as is his camp. He never would have time and he certainly could not risk the danger or distraction of having a lover.
Pets He had a horse...when he lived at home but since then he has claimed no animal to belong to him. Nor person either.
Special Items His Re-curve Bow. Its his most prized possession because he trusts it to protect and serve him as well as he protects and serves it.
History
Henry was born to privilege. He knew from the moment he was old enough to understand the way the world worked, he would inherit his father’s legacy. Spoiled and given whatever he wanted, the young boy used his rank to his advantage more often than not. This caused a rift between him and other young boys his age. He began to isolate himself although unintentional at first. He focused his childhood on being the son his parents had always wanted. He was a beloved child, albeit more than a little spoiled. He was the only child his parents were able to conceive. Despite him being born male and at the beginning of his parents’ marriage his mother was never well after his birth.
He spent much of his time as a young child with his nursemaids, books and tutors. He was allowed outside on days his mother approved. She often watched over him during any strenuous activities. As if concerned that her own ailment might have affected him. At the tender age of seven his mother died of a weakness in her heart. It took his father about six years to finally remarry. The interim meant more time spent with his father, whom he mimicked as much as possible. He had to be the perfect son.
And he played the part oh so well. He knew his place and treated those beneath it as just that, beneath him. No one was his equal. He often used his knowledge to convince people he was better than they were. However his father’s indulgence in his outwardly rude behaviors soon waned. By the age of eleven most of his outward remarks were silenced on the matter. He became quiet, stoic almost like a puppet who moved when he was given the word. That was before he met his soon to be stepmother. He’d never disliked anyone so much as her.
The rumors about Stepmothers are true… at least in Henry’s case. The dislike was mutual and escalated with every passing day. As the days came and went, Henry became less of a bookworm and more of an outdoorsman. He spent time riding, sword fighting, hunting, jousting, falconry and perhaps his most favored activity, archery. To say he was a good shot would be putting things mildly. When his father finally saw him shoot at a Tournament when he was seventeen, he was completely taken aback. He was the best archer anyone had seen in a long time.
Henry’s time at home was wearisome so he began to travel with a knight in hopes of being promoted to one himself and to stay out of his stepmother’s way. So far the vile woman had only bore his father two insignificant daughters. He traveled only for a few months in the knight’s service before he found himself back home. His father had sent for him promising things would be better now that his stepmother was with child again. At the age of eighteen, instead of focusing on how to woo the young peasant girls, Henry was trying to fit in with his family. An impossible task.
He could not even stay for the birth of his third half-sister. So it was he left home once more in search of something of meaning for him. Henry was a selfish young man and the fact that it hurt his father to see him leave in such haste, did not bother him. He left and went to train in his squire duties once more. However he did not get to stay in the peaceful world of Alvernon for long. At nineteen he left to fight in the south with the King. Henry was there for seven years. He returned to a much changed Alvernon. Having been much changed himself he no longer wanted to inherit his father’s fortune, title or lands. So he disappeared into the dark forest.
He could no longer be who he was. He had seen death, he had created it. He’d killed more men than he dared to think about. In battle did one really have a choice? Henry still suffers from some post-traumatic stress. He has nightmares, he sleeps with his bow, he screams out in the night, he often sees images from the past when he is agitated. Being unfit for the real world, the wood seemed the best place to stay and think for a while. However, he soon found himself in trouble with another inhabitant of the wood.
Sean Everton tried to steal whatever he had with him which was almost nothing. The two of them fought until they realized they were a match for eachother at which point both had formed the opinion they could do better sticking together. Henry and Sean “Wolf” began taking from the wealthy who entered the wood. Soon having enough gold which they would never spend, they began to give the money to the poorest, least well off families in the towns close to the wood. After about a year, they met Johna “Little John”. She was actually attempting to steal from them. Turns out it did not go the way she planned. Henry and Wolf were on her before she knew what was happening. After hearing her story they decided to trust her. The last to join their crew was Benjamin Carver, whom they call Ben. He was wandering the woods alone, having been sentenced to have his hand cut off for stealing. As they stole more from the wealthy prices were put on their heads. Outlaws, vagabonds, thieves, they had no place anywhere but the wood.
Henry could never go home now, even if he had an inclination to.
